Clear Blue Sea

In his late 50s, Adam was looking for a challenge and adventure that his working life had not given him. He discovered that sailing provided a unique sense of mental and physical freedom that he struggled to find elsewhere. Adam got a taste for longer distance sailing when crewing on a 60ft clipper from Oban in Scotland to Iceland. After that trip he decided to learn how to sail by the book and immersed himself in RYA theory and practical courses progressing to a professionally endorsed seafarer’s qualification of RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore. He is also a RYA Cruising Instructor teaching students to become skippers.

There is a simple beauty about the concept of building a small, ecologically friendly boat and sailing it by wind power around the world. I hope the experience will bring me new practical skills in the workshop and I will learn more about myself both physically and mentally during the many months at sea.

One night in January 2022, after a steadying and very large whisky, Adam pressed the confirm button on his banking app and bought the timber for the construction of his 5.80 Mini from ClassGlobe 5.80 – Fyne Boat Kits. The adventure had begun!
