MGR 2025 Daily Update: Tactical Battles & Current Intrigue! ![]()
Frank’s Opinion!
The fleet is navigating some seriously tricky conditions as they push towards the Galapagos! Light winds, shifting currents, and strategic gambles are keeping everyone on their toes. Here’s the latest from the trackers:
Front-Runners & Tactical Plays
Christian Sauer MGR 2025 (Christmas Christian) – Still leading the pack but stuck in light airs, managing a 42nm day. Will he hold his position cutting the corner on a SW course and eventually when the trades fill in? Maybe not?
Gary Swindail – Mini Globe Race – Fired up after a fast 86nm day (and a cheeky message to Don about his speed reports)! He’s gaining, but will it be enough to close the gap? he is riding the last of a favorable current .
Mini Globe Race 2025 Keri– Tacking south, playing the long game. Slow progress now, but could pay off big if he hooks into favorable currents and HOLDS the SW course missing the head currents of the south pack…will the breeze hold???.
Mid-Fleet Showdowns
Jasmine Harrison vs. Josh Kali Ocean Racing – Still locked in a duel! Jasmine extended her lead with a 37nm day vs. Josh’s 26nm. Who’ll break free first?
Pilar Pasanau vs. Dan Turner- Mini Globe Race 2025 – Trading places like a match race! Just 2 miles apart—close enough to spot each other on the horizon. Tense sailing!
Renaud Stitelmann – The “Shackleton of the MGR” is grinding south, but lurking currents could make or break his strategy. Will he cut the corner or push deeper and will the Trades dip south just out of his reach??
The Wildcard: Ocean Currents!
The currents near the Galapagos are shifting dramatically—some boats could get a free ride, while others face brutal head currents. Don’s analysis suggests:
Following current for the northern group (Mini Globe Race 2025 Keri, Christian) could give them a huge boost if they keep sailing SW.
Headcurrent risk for Renaud & the southern pack if they turn west too soon—could lose 2.5 knots of boat speed!
Pro Tip from Don
“Watch the Agulhas Current later in the race—it’s a ship-swallowing monster off South Africa!” (Seriously, Google it. Terrifying.)
Who’s Watching?
Even the skippers are tuning in! Gary’s checking his speeds, Delja 99 and 100 lurking in the comments, and Renaud’s probably rethinking his route after seeing those currents and Ertan Beskardes is listening to every word Don says, but simply follows Keri!
Next update tomorrow—will the trades finally arrive or dip south as Renaud crosses the equator FIRST? Stay tuned!
